Hair Extension Care

  1. The extension hair as well as your own needs to be conditioned and moisturized.  Goldwell Kerasilk, Creme of Nature and Joico products are highly recommended. Joico’s K-Pak works so well on extension hair. Joico’s Moisturizer and kerasilk conditioner are excellent for regular conditioning while the K-Pak should be used once every two to three weeks.
  2. Conditioning the hair is mandatory to its maintenance. However, it is possible to over condition the hair. Some signs that the hair is over conditioned are brittleness and tangling. If it does occur, your best recourse is to use a deep cleansing or chelating shampoo.
  3. If you use hair spray or other styling products, try to avoid those containing alcohol. (Alcohol makes hair dry). Styling products create build up on the hair and it is recommended that a deep cleansing shampoo be used biweekly to remove build up. Build up can make the hair dry and tangle. Use moisturizer to avoid this problem every time you wash your hair.
  4. Be sure to brush out the hair and remove all tangles before washing it. This short step is useful in preventing knots that can be locked in from the water.
  5. When washing the hair, always wash it going in downward motion. Do not mix it all together and create unnecessary tangles. Use your fingers in a horizontal motion between wefts to clean your scalp. When rinsing, do the same to be sure that all the shampoo and conditioner residues are washed out.
  6. Although the extension hair is real, it is not receiving nutrients from the scalp like your own hair. Heat is your hair extension’s biggest enemy. The more you use on it, the shorter the life-span of your hair. We cannot guarantee that the hair will remain silky if you use the blow dryer or curling iron. If you must use heat, be sure you use a leave-in conditioner first, such as Lanza’s Rebalance Leave-In conditioner. We also recommend that for curling the hair, you use steam rollers such as Caruso’s or Vidal Sasson’s molecular stream rollers.
  7. When you sleep, we highly recommend that you braid, wrap, or ponytail all your hair together to prevent tangling. This will save time, that would be otherwise spent untangling the hair the next morning.
